Jasper is surprisingly agreeable to our terms. Once we come to them. It seems he has accepted his wrongdoing and is prepared to make amends. Now that I’ve guilted him into realizing the life he stole from Cayde. Apparently I do have coercion skills enough to convince him.

We remain in Frost Peak for only one day more before beginning our long journey to the Valley of Souls. I have no inclination of what to do now to return Cayde to his body. Aila had said to do what I always do. I have done that.

It didn’t work.

Now, we go blindly to the valley in hopes the solution has something to do with the river. Maybe Aila will deign to grace me with her presence once more and better explain what it is I must do. For her previous instructions were limited at best and useless at worst.

Jasper, it seems is not completely unpleasant company. He tells me of his life before becoming Cayde and after. How it felt to be so young and thriving again after being ill for so many years. Especially when he was able to use his hands again. His had become gnarled and pained with every movement.

He regales me with the tale of his encounter with the soul dealer. Of the elusive tea she sold him to make the soul exchange with Cayde. Telling us how the “accidental” cut on his palm that night was part of the ritual he was told to perform. Putting drops of their blood in the tea.

Not only was the soul dealer using black magic but blood magic as well. If my calling to his soul didn’t pull him from Cayde’s body, I don’t really know what will. More blood magic? The likes of which I have absolutely no knowledge of. If we can’t find out answers in the Valley, me may very well have to seek out the soul dealer. A feat none has ever accomplished.

I pay close attention to the details on how he found the soul dealer. Sadly, none of which will be helpful in finding her a second time. Considering she found him.

Jasper had been down on his luck begging in the glut for years when the soul dealer found him. Jasper was not seeking one out nor even asking around to find one. One day while he was sitting in a dirty alley a woman approached him and offered him a solution. A way to grant all his wishes and turn his dreams into reality. Youth and vitality. All for the price of his fondest memories, the ones that brought him the greatest joy. There weren’t many to choose from in his life of work and no family. But there were some of a girl he once loved in his youth and had a minor tryst with before she married another. He cannot remember her name or her face, nor the few nights they spent together anymore. All he knows is there was a girl he once loved and nothing more.
